Hindu man sits and has his head shaved by the River Ganges across from Howrah Bridge, Kolkata, India. These rituals and customs form a major part of the Hindu religion and people follow it with great devotion to attain moksha or freedom from the cycle of birth. Hair is considered a matter of pride and by offering it to God, it is believed to be the disposal of their pride and arrogance. It is also common for men to shave off their locks as a part of their promise made to God in return of some kind of wish fulfillments.
